When a crisp chill creeps into the air this time of year, I get a craving for chili! I made my first pot of the season this morning!
Inevitably, adding chili to the menu will re-ignite the discussion between my husband and I over whether chili should include noodles. I mentioned this on my Facebook page today and, wow, what a response! It seems most fall into the anti-noodle camp. Growing up, my mom always put elbow macaroni in our pot of chili. Of course, with five kids in the family, there probably is some validity to the argument that it was a way to make the pot go a little further. I still like it this way, though, and will now put my pasta on the side so as not to subject my husband to the cruel twist on this cold-weather favorite! Another difference in our chili habits are the crackers - I like to crumble mine right into the bowl, while he prefers to nibble his in between spoonfuls. I also had chili once that was made with rice, which I thought was quite tasty, too!
Noodles or not argument aside, I'd like your secrets for chili success! Plus, what other foods make onto your menu when fall and winter weather rolls around? Stew would probably make it to my list. I also think of making beef roast more this time of year, when you're ready for the heat from the oven to warm the house again!
Hmmmm.... suddenly, I'm feeling hungry!
