You've likely heard the lament from your parents or grandparents - or maybe you've said it yourself: "They sure don't make 'em like they used to!"
Turns out, that saying has a bit of truth to it! A "Financially Fit" article on Yahoo! Finance today lists five items where older models may actually be better than what you'll find in the stores today. Topping the list: fans. The older fans were made with stronger motors, and stronger, metal blades that pushed more air. The article suggests early 1990s models, but also notes vintage fans. Added benefit: I think those vintage fans have a lot of unique stylings that make them just cool to look at!
Also making Yahoo!'s list are sewing machines, vintage audio equipment, cast iron and vintage furniture. You can see the reasons why in the article - here's the link: http://financiallyfit.yahoo.com/finance/article-113783-11642-3-5-products-that-are-better-old-than-new?ywaad=ad0035
Meantime, what do you think isn't made the way it used to be? I'll go with Legos. There are all sorts of fancy contraptions with teeny, tiny parts - you know how hard it is to find a basic package of good, old-fashioned building blocks that kids actually have to use their imagination to create something?
