Updates from home are always fun and, this time of year, they often make me appreciate the Kansas weather. Yes, even after the weekend cold snap, a call from Mom made me say, "It would always be worse."
You know that video of the snow making the Metrodome roof collapse in Minneapolis? Well, that system blew across Wisconsin, right into my hometown on the Lake Michigan shore. Mom said she went into church Saturday night to nothing falling and came out an hour later to a car covered with snow and the roads already starting to drift. By Sunday morning, they had about a foot of snow covering the area.
My brother is a volunteer firefighter in one of the rural towns. He sent me an email this morning to let me know the "fun" I was missing! He said there was a spot on the highway with more than a dozen cars stuck and snow drifted over their windshields, a snow plow broke down in the road and a wrecker got stuck, too. They got several calls during the night - after getting his car stuck to go in for the first one, he opted to trudge through the snow on foot the four to five blocks to the station after that!
All of which has me more than willing to put up with a couple mornings of cold temperatures! Bundling up against the cold is one thing - cold coupled with a foot of snow? No thanks! How about you?
