Nothing like sitting up and paying to international news when it happens down the block from a place you just were!
Such was the case this morning when I woke up to hear an explosive device was located outside the Parliament Building in Athens. Less than three weeks ago, I was standing right outside that building and sleeping in a hotel across the street. Yikes! My thanks to the troublemakers for waiting until I was out of town, so as not to freak out my mom!
Whether it's good news or bad news, it tends to hit closer to home for me if it's a place I've been. Since I've been to Italy, my ears perk up when I run across items from that country. And when the Golden Globes are on, it's fun to look around the red carpet to spot familiar scenes since that's the hotel where the MDA emcees briefing used to be held. Not to mention keeping an eye out for news from Wisconsin, since that's where I grew up.
How about you? Do you tend to feel more ownership over places you've visited?
