The calendar only says Dec. 16, but, tonight, Ralph and I will exchange our "Happy New Years!" I'll be off on my holiday break next week spending time with the family, while Ralph takes off the week between Christmas and New Years. We try to avoid taking the same days off to make it easier on the rest of the newsroom, and this has always worked well, giving Ralph a chance to spend time with his children when they've had their break from school. It's just always seemed way too early to be heading out the door, saying, "See you next year!"
That said, let me take this opportunity to wish each of you a merry Christmas and happy, blessed New Year! Oh, and may it not take you until July to remember to write "2012" on all your important documents! (I was going to say checks, but I think I'm one of the few who still uses those!)
One final detail for Christmas is up to Mother Nature. While I'm not liking the potential for heavy snow in the forecast next Monday/Tuesday, I *will* be hoping Christmas Eve for a nice, gentle snowfall to make the holiday complete! I'm a sucker for a white Christmas.... just not a "whiteout" Christmas like we had a few years ago!
