Sleeping on a real bed never felt so good! After basically 24 hours of travel, our WIBW Holiday Vactions group landed in Sydney, Australia - and hit the ground running!
Let's back up- we departed Topeka at 7:15 am Thursday, flew from Kansas City to Houston and Houston to Los Angeles. The final 14 hour flight from LA to Sydney had us arriving in Sydney at around 7 am Saturday! We crossed the International Date Line, so I'm not sure what you did Friday, but the day didn't exist in our world!
No matter how tired and grubby we felt, though, it seemed to disappear when we stepped off the motorcoach at the harbor and got our look at the perhaps the two most iconic points in Sydney's skyline - the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. After getting a look at them from the water during a cruise of Sydney Harbor, we got an hour at the hotel before heading out again, this time for a tour of the Opera House. What an impressive facility! A million self-cleaning granite tiles cover the outside sails. Inside, we watched one of the stage crews in action, taking down the set from an afternoon show to make way for the set needed for an evening performance.
And just like the States, Saturday seems a popular day for weddings in Australia! We lost count of how many brides we spotted taking advantage of all the picturesque spots to tie the knot! My computer is being temperamental about posting them directly to this blog, but go to www.facebook.com/wibwmelissabrunner to check out a few pictures of those first views - some of them from the water on our cruise around the harbor - as well as a video with the lovely look I was sporting after all that time on the plane! Believe me, we slept quite well Saturday night!
