There's something about running through the woods on a crisp, fall morning. I found myself in that very situation with a couple friends this morning. We set out on the trails around Cedar Crest when the sun was out and starting to warm the day. We all remarked how peaceful it was to hear leaves crunching under our feet while sun filtered through the branches that enveloped us. Of course, then we looked up at the river bluff towering over us and had some not-so-peaceful thoughts as we felt the burn making our way back up!
Hills or not, I think fall just might be the best time to head outdoors to exercise. It doesn't have the bitter cold of winter or the sweltering heat of summer. Plus, there's usually less mud on the trail than you deal with in spring! I'm especially thankful for our recent string of beautiful weather - I'm dreading the cold days ahead where I'll relegate myself to the treadmill, too wimpy to brave the cold! That said, my friends and I did have a memorable run on a damp morning last winter, where we had bright white frost build up on our hair and eyebrows and eyelashes as we went along!
