This is National Influenza Vaccination Week! If you haven't gotten a shot yet, it's not too late. Flu cases typically don't peak until February, so we have a lot of time left to be holding the bugs at bay!
In our Thursday To Your Health segment, we'll be talking about another reason a flu vaccine is a good idea - it could protect your heart. A recent study of people over the age of 40 who had risk factors for heart disease showed a 19% lower rate of heart attack in those who had received a flu vaccination. Take that finding to heart.
In addition to the vaccine, you can also keep yourself safe by washing your hands frequently and covering your coughs. An article on Yahoo! today from Eating Well magazine mentioned a few other things you might try, including Vitamin D and green tea. They also called out a couple things that aren't all they're cracked up to be. Here's a link to the story so you can see what those are: http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/how-to-fight-colds-and-flu-what-works-and-what-doesn-t-2415849/
What are your tricks for staying healthy? Here's hoping they work!
