I've long been a fan of the CBS show "Amazing Race." My husband and I will watch and discuss who would have to do which "Detour" or "Road Block" and other tasks along the way. (I would read the map and direct him while he drove.) As a viewer, I love to see the world through the eyes of the racers. As a television professional, I think about all the logistics they must work through to make the show happen.
I was psyched to hear that the station would be sponsoring an open casting call. Not so fast for me, though - working for a CBS affiliate means we can't try out.
Shucks.
But you can - and that is awesome! I'd love to have a team from Topeka to cheer on as they make their way around the world. I've already learned of sisters I know who are going to take a shot. And why not? You have nothing to lose, and the experience of a lifetime to gain!
My fellow resident reality show fan, Brian Haug from our sales department, is organizing the event. He says you bring yourselves, the application, copies of your passports and photos of yourselves to send in, and we'll do the two-minute videotaping of you. Applications will be available on-site, but it's 13 pages, so it might be helpful to download and fill out before you come. Here's here's the link: http://www.cbs.com/cbs_casting/. Does a casting call really work? I don't know the odds, but I do know Brandon Bellinger, who was on "Survivor" the year fellow Kansan Dani Boatwright won, made his tape through a casting call we held.
The event is Monday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 7 pm at Qdoba on Wanamaker, just south of 10th St. I'm hoping to have a few minutes to swing in and say hello. Have fun! And if you're not interested in "Amazing Race," what would be the reality show you would like to appear on and why? I'd love to hear your answers!
