Thinking back on a busy weekend, reflected in the long title of this blog!
*Super Strut: Kudos to everyone who turned out for the Polar Strut 5k Saturday at Lake Shawnee! The beautiful morning must have inspired a lot of people to lace up the sneakers - more people turned out than anticipated! Matt Blanchette, Amanda Lanum, Lindsay Shively and Amy Schmidt all hit the pavement for our WIBW team. I did, too, along with Photog Rick. We were even joined by some guys running in women's dresses and another group in grass skirts and coconut bras. But there was a reason for that....
*Super Swim: Those crazy costumed runners were warming up for the Polar Plunge! The other half of Saturday's events involved diving in to the frigid waters of Lake Shawnee! As you can see, quite a crowd got up the nerve - including Matt and Rick! Rick even went in twice... we ladies decided to pass! All the fun benefited the Special Olympics of Kansas.
*Super Bowl: What a game! I didn't have a diehard feeling for either the Steelers or Cardinals, so I was hoping for a competitive matchup. Just when it was looking like you could turn the channel, the Cardinals mounted their comeback. When Fitzgerald broke loose for the go-ahead score with under three-minutes to go, you had to admire the underdogs. When Holmes caught the TD in the corner with :35 left, you just said, "Wow!" I'd feel a whole lot better about the whole thing, though, if the refs would have reviewed the Warner "fumble" with :05 left. Personally, I think Arizona had one more shot coming to them. Would they have made it? We'll never know - but it would have made it even more interesting!
Oh, and the commercials! I loved the dalmatian and the Clydesdale playing fetch - anyone who knows me would say they could have predicted that! On the whole, though, I think the ads reflected the economy - not as good as previous years.
*One Super Letdown: My letdown of the weekend was the news Michael Phelps was apologizing after being caught in a photo inhaling from a marijuana pipe. Debate the legality and how bad it is all you want - as an athlete, he should know better. I'm disappointed in what he admitted was a lack of judgment, but on the other hand, at least he's owning up to it. Let's hope this is a blip.
Have a great week!
