As we look ahead to a new year, it's nice to reflect on the year that was. So before I embark on 2009, I'm recalling some of the highs and lows of 2008. It's a reminder to me that even though we experience rough times, they are inevitably balanced by something good - and often outweighed by it!
High: Traveling to Italy in October
Low: Traveling to Wisconsin in September for my grandmother's funeral
High: Going back in December to meet my new niece!
High: Hosting two successful telethons with Ralph Hipp to earn money for a new shelter for Helping Hands Humane Society
Low: The second telethon was immediately followed by warnings that became the tornados striking Chapman and Manhattan
High: Another fantastic MDA telethon!
Low: It included a goodbye to two fighters, Adam Sahfeld and John White
High: My nephew wrapped up successful chemo for a tumor on his optic nerve brought on by a disease called NF
Low: Ending the year with him starting a new round for a tumor on his thalamus
High: Completing my first 10k run at the Sunflower State Games
Low: Straining a calf muscle right before the Rescue Run - couldn't try for a personal best, but I still did it!
High: Working with people I can also call my friends
Low: Seeing several leave the newsroom, even if it was for great opportunities
High: Now that we're on Facebook, we keep in touch!
