It started out innocently enough. San Marco Square in Venice, Italy is home to a very friendly - but equally competitive - flock of pigeons. They love attention - or maybe itàs the stray (and not-so-stray) crumbs from tourists! They'll strut past, chests puffed out, playful glint in their little round eyes. A speck of bread falls, and they're on it faster than you can say, "Caio!" (If these were American pigeons, they'd be saying, "Chow!") I saw other people getting up close and personal with the feathered friends, so I thought it might be fun to do the same. I happened to have a cracker in my purse. The pictures tell the rest!
See - they look harmless
One staked claim on my arm - chasing others away...
...so this one decided to try the aerial approach!
It didn't go so well!
And to answer the question I know you want to ask - no, I did not leave with any extra "souvenirs" on my head, or anywhere else!
