I had to share my latest shopping experience. It's one that comes around once a year, but this was the first time I had a chance to see what a huge deal it is for some groups. Tandem Books Topeka Bindery is having its tent sale. Once a year, they sell off stock that might have been overproduced, returned or has slight defects. A big tent at the corner of N. Topeka Blvd. and Lyman Rd. has tables overflowing with books - children's' books, young adult and adult novels, dictionaries - you get the picture - something for everyone. The sale kicked off today (Wednesday) and continues Thursday and Friday. It runs each day from 8 am to 7 pm. This was the first time I went on the first day and was surprised to see vehicles from school districts throughout Northeast Kansas. I asked one woman about it. She says their district makes the sale every year to stock up on books the school library - it was just after noon, and they'd been there since 8 am scouring the tables! She says it was the perfect way to get a lot of books for not a lot of money. Oh, yeah - did I mention all books are just $2.50? If you need some books for yourself or to give as gifts, you might want to check it out. I purchased several for nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, a couple to read on the airplane during our upcoming trip, and even an Italian-English dictionary for the journey! When you're done reading, share the book with a friend - at $2.50, you can afford it!
