What a terrific Tuesday! Beautiful weather made it a great morning for a run around the trails at Shawnee North. And no rushing around! That's because I'm taking the day off to see Carrie Underwood and Little Big Town at the Kansas Expocentre. My husband - well, he gets left behind! His aunt asked if I, his cousin, sister and sister-in-law wanted to go together and, of course, we all said yes. I thought the concert was at 7pm, so doing the six o'clock news would have been pushing it to get there. Then I found out the concert wasn't until 7:30pm - but I'd already asked for the day off, so I thought, "Why not?!" We're headed out of town this weekend, so I've done a couple loads of laundry, froze some tomatoes and have done a (very) little bit of cleaning! Oh, yes - and a few outings with the dogs, too! Time now to get ready for the concert. I'll admit, I wasn't a huge fan of Carrie Underwood when she was on American Idol, but she's really impressed me since then. She's made some good song choices and has grown as a performer. I'm looking forward to seeing her live! Who'd be your top choice for a live concert? See who I should add to my list!
Update: What a show! Musically, I must say I enjoyed Little Big Town more than Carrie Underwood. Their harmonies and balance and ability to work the stage, which extended into the crowd, were phenomenal. It made me want to run out and get their CDs! Carrie's show took a little bit to get going, I thought. My first impression (once I got past wondering how she was going to stay upright on towering, skinny heels!) was that she looked awful small on that big stage. But once she got past the first couple songs and her band got more involved, the rhythm settled in. The musical issue with her, though, is the same often encountered in large settings - the balance of the instruments drowning out her voice. That's why I thought she really shined on songs like "Jesus Take the Wheel." She has three different outfits - five if you count the variations on two of them (one dress went from long to short, and she traded out a belt for a jacket for the end). Her final two songs showed how she can erupt with energy. First was a song made famous by Guns 'n Roses, "Paradise City." Not sure what the hard-core country fans in the crowd thought of it, but I thought it rocked. And she ended with the big hit, "Before He Cheats." Overall, she was highly entertaining and I think she'll only get better as her career continues.

The following pics were taken with my cell phone camera - not the best quality, but that's why I'm not a photographer!
Little Big Town on stage - they positively glowed!
Carrie Underwood on the portion of the stage that jutted into the crowd.
We had a great view of the big video screen, so we didn't miss anything!
