I'm among those excited to see the Topeka Boulevard bridge reopen! It's been two long years of having to wind your way around to get back and forth between the north side and the south side of the river. The detour itself wasn't too bad. Of course, I'm not among those who traveled it every day. I know business owners are looking forward to traffic having an easy route to travel again and the sidewalks, railings and clocks make it all look nice, too. As the bridge reopens, I thought I'd look back to the day nearly two years ago when it came down - Aug. 9, 2006. It was a hot day - not unlike the forecast for the reopening! It also brought a new era to our web channel, www.wibw.com. The day of the first bridge implosion, I did the first-ever live webcast on the site! In the past two years, our web channel has grown to include a lot more new content every day - from text stories, to extended interviews, to daily blogs - even live chats during our newscasts! As the new bridge has grown up, so has our web channel. Guess that's why I'll always remember the day the bridge came down. Now, it's on to the future with a new bridge. Once you get to drive over it, let me know what you think - and take time to enjoy life on both sides of the river.
