My Sunflower State Games experience wrapped up Saturday with the 5k cross country run at Iliff Commons. More than 60 runners set out on a challenging course of creek crossing and steep hills, around the prairie and through the woods. Dr. Doug Iliff and his wife, Dorothy, created the trail through their property on NE 31st Street, just west of K4. I first ran on it at last year's Sunflower State Games, and, upon learning they keep it open for people to come out and use anytime, have been back for more! It's a great way to challenge yourself if you're used to running on flat routes! I was proud to finish strong and wind up first in my age group. But I'm more anxious to see how much I can improve my fitness level for next year's games - after all, being healthy is more important than any medal!
