If you needed a reminder that just because something is old doesn't mean it's lost its usefulness, you need to head to an antique tractor pull! That's right - a tractor pull! I hadn't been to one in years before my husband and I took his dad to the Meridan Threshing Bee antique tractor pull Saturday night. I'm no stranger to the pastime. My dad and brother have been involved in Wisconsin for years, taking the old Olivers out for a run. In fact, my brother was pulling Sunday. It's kind of fun to watch them rumble down the track, trying to outdo each other. Of course, the drivers aren't really the stars - it's their rides! We got to see plenty of them Saturday night - the classic John Deere, M's, and, yes, the Olivers that my dad loves so much! I've included some video I shot with a portable recorder, just for fun. You can also find more pictures under the "From the Field" section of My Capture (find it by scrolling down the right-hand side of the home page). And if you want to check it out in person, the McLouth Threshing Bee is coming up Aug. 1-3. (More info at  http://mclouththreshingbee.com/index.html). Have fun!

whats up with the gas at Larrys shortstop for 2:49

RESPONSE: Your tractor could go far on that! I'm hearing of several places dropping down - not sure why. Check gasbuddy.com for prices.

Melissa, they are doing it differently than when my late husband and I were up there in the 60's. Back then they used low flat beds on skids with cement blocks for the weight. I've never seen the trucks used before. How do they make the weight difference in the run off? McLouth is a great place to go for all people as there are a lot of things for all ages. I would encourage people to go and learn how the old timers used to farm, etc. Have you been up there to it yet?

RESPONSE: I didn't see any run offs (at least I don't think I did!), so I'm not sure. Haven't made it to McLouth yet...I'll have to do that.
