My Friday started early with an appearance on Jim Cates' new online talk show at www.cjonline.com. I was part of a media roundtable discussion that included Denise Hall of the Metro News and Fred Johnson of the Topeka Capital Journal. The experience itself wasn't unlike the times I joined Jim on his prior radio show. It's how people hear the show that's changed. Rather than being over the airwaves, it's now exclusively on the internet. It was great to chat with other newsies about different perspectives on Heartland Visioning, Topeka street repairs, the presidential election and our local Congressional and Senate races - not sharing our own opinions, just offering different angles to the situations. Many people talk about the opportunities available via the internet, but I'm wondering how much a wave of the future this is. Would you or do you listen to talk shows online? It's not that different than listening to radio or satellite - just requires an internet connection. If you do, where do those programs originate? The internet opens up shows to a worldwide audience, rather than just the geographic area in which one can receive the radio or TV signal. Much like the live chats during our newscasts, an internet show also has the potential to be interactive, with listeners emailing questions or comments in addition to the traditional phone calls. So... good or bad? Is the future now? What makes you listen or chat?
