Independence Day brings many parades and community celebrations. This year, it will also bring a sure sign political season is in full swing! These public events are fertile ground of political candidates trying to "press the flesh" - meet as many potential voters as possible. The weeks and months ahead bring a fresh challenge for us, too. With the candidates having events here and there, we must make sure we're giving equal coverage to all those in a particular race. For the Fourth of July, that means if we show one candidate at a parade, we will make every effort to show the opponent at the same parade or another. It can get more complicated, however, when a candidate is the incumbent or holds a public office or position where they might stage public events. Is it the normal course of their job or publicity for their campaign or both? Rest assured, we'll be doing all we can to offer you information on all the candidates leading up to the election, and we'll be working every day to make sure we're doing so in a fair, unbiased manner.
