A quick update on my preparations for the Sunflower State Games and my first 10k. As my friend, Tony Estes with Fitness in Training, recommended, I put in a six-mile run Saturday. I chose some hilly dirt roads in Jefferson County, adding the distance to my usual five-mile route. I handled it all right. In fact, Doug thought I finished more quickly than expected - not that I was trying. My legs were a bit fatigued Sunday, but not too bad. I did take it as an off day, following Tony's advice. Monday I put in a little less than four miles; Tuesday I cleared brush to celebrate our anniversary (!); Wednesday, I ran a little more than four miles, and today (Thursday) I did just about two and a half miles in hilly laps with the dogs. I'm not sure what Friday will hold - I might take it as an off day, because I'm on track to try for a seven-miler this weekend. Wish me luck! SSG 10k Training Log: Handling the Heat |

Everytime I read your SSG blogs, I always think "Good GRIEF!!" Keep up the great work!
RESPONSE: It's been so nice to have the encouragement of all my blogging friends. Thanks, Chelsey! Posted by: Sharon Location: topeka Melissa, I hope Doug rubs your piggies when you get home from your training. 6 miles, WOW that is alot, the block is my tops. How's Buddy doing? The rest of the kids? Keep up the good work. Oh, Lili got her Staples out. She is so happy, she gets her tummy rubs again. Take care. RESPONSE: Good to hear about Lili! Six miles isn't very much when I see people training for marathons - and more! Example - the man at the Topeka Tinman last weekend who was doing 100 triathlons in 100 days -- yikes! All my kids are doing fine - they love their tummy rubs, too! |
