Back at work after a couple days off - and trying to figure out how to get the dirt out from under my fingernails! Doug and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary Tuesday. What did we do? Well, we're pretty low key, so we cut down a few trees and cleared some brush! It's actually not as unromantic as it sounds - Doug gave me a new area to plant a flowerbed. Part of the prep work involved moving out some volunteer trees that had sprung up (one was actually pretty big - sorry Doug!) and cutting back some bushes that had gotten totally out of control. That venture was preceded by a stop at the coffee shop for a latte and trip to the garden store for our traditional anniversary rose bush to add to the rose garden and some flowers for the new area. I do wear gloves, but when it comes to actually getting the plants in the ground, I can't seem to get a good feel for things unless I use my bare hands - hence, the dirt under the fingernails! It's not quite done - by the time we cleared all the brush away, we were pretty beat - and it was our anniversary, so a nice dinner was in order! So far, I've been lucky about avoiding contact with any poison ivy that might be lurking in that brush! Oh, yes - and I can't come back from a long weekend without a dog story! Buddy made a new friend - at least four times over the long weekend, we had to rescue a turtle from his mouth. Buddy would find the turtle, pick him up in his mouth, head to a nice spot in the grace, plunk the turtle on the ground and look at him, wagging his tail. We'd rescue the turtle, cart him off somewhere far away - like other side of the fence, down by the creek - and think we were done with it. This turtle came back three times!! We haven't seen him since yesterday afternoon, so hopefully the turtle has learned - but we think Buddy is missing his "pet turtle" because he wanders along the fence looking for him!
