My sister from St. Louis came to visit me Sunday, and I was telling her about a season we were just about to enter around these parts - morrell mushroom hunting time! Growing up in Wisconsin, we never experienced this, and I filled her in on how I learned all about it. I also told her that die-hard morrell hunters will never reveal the spot from which they've taken a great haul! Not two hours after she left, I looked at the ground at a pretty reliable spot and screamed, "I win! I win!" My husband a few feet away didn't know what was going on until I bent down and plucked the first morrell of the season from the ground! Hence, the project we'd been working on took a back seat for about a 20 minutes while we raced to see who could find the most. It's a bit of a competition we have each spring. I took round one, but we'll see what happens over the next couple weeks. Alas, that's all the longer we can expect the fun to last. But while it does, help me keep winning the game! I know you won't reveal your secret spots, but any general secrets for successful morrell hunts? Any great recipes? Any way to ensure they'll stick around next year?
