There's just something special about the sound of four-part harmony! My dad participates in a men's barbershop chorus - no, he doesn't go get his haircut with a bunch of guys who sit around and hum. Barbershop music - the stuff of tenor, bass, baritone and lead. I grew up listening to it - my first exposure to going to shows and appreciating music. Topeka has a barbershop chorus, too, and it's been a pleasure to meet some of its members as they've visited to promote their activities. The upcoming show for the Capital City Chorus, "Thanks for the Memories," has an added bonus - not only will you hear great music, you'll also help a great cause. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Topeka Rescue Mission. You'll hear the chorus, some of the local barbershop quartets and also a talented guest group known internationally. They hope to fill the house, so the "full house" the Rescue Mission often gets can be helped as much as possible. The date is this Saturday, April 12th. Performances are at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm at Fairlawn Nazarene Church, 730 SW Fairlawn. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and students. Call 785-271-6208 for more information.
