I gave a speech the other day, and a lady in the group asked, "Why do you and your husband always sit way up in the corner at the Washburn games?" It's true. We climb the bleachers to our little corner of the world. "Well," I told her, "it started because it was just out of the way, but I guess now we're just a little superstitious about it!" You see, I don't think we've ever seen Washburn lose when we've sat in this particular location, so I'm thinking - why mess with it?! Especially this time of year, with basketball tournaments and championships underway, let's share our superstitions! When we covered the Washburn women's team run to the Division II national championship a few years ago, we heard about all sorts of them - from always taking the same bus, to the pack of gum Ronnie never got to share! I know my husband has some from his basketball days - something about the words on his socks needing to be a certain way. When Ralph and I are out and about, I always try to stand on the same side of him - I think since I sit to his right on the set, it would be bad charma if I stood to his left on a live shot. What do you do? Or what are some of the oddest superstitions you have you heard about if you don't want to fess up to your own!?
