I can't wait for Labor Day! It's not because it's a holiday off from work. Quite the opposite, in fact - it's one of my longest work days of the year!
However, it's also one I love best. This will be my 13th year hosting our local MDA Telethon. This year, we'll be live from Briggs Kia Car Corner at SW Topeka Blvd. and Croix. I love to catch up with the kids and their families, find out how the adults affected by MD are doing, and see all those who spend every day of the year fighting the good fight.
Among the areas with which your donations help is MDA summer camp. It's one week where children living the neuromuscular disease come together, away from their families, with other kids just like themselves to do things all other kids do - but maybe they aren't allowed to do at home. Each year, we go to capture video of the event, but this year, I decided to go down the line of campers and their counselors and ask them to finish the sentence, "MDA camp is....." Their answers were fun and funny...and touching, too.
You'll see the video on the telethon, but here's a sneak peak. Enjoy!
