Missing Those Childhood Talents...

Watching the slew of reality shows featuring people's talents combined with just feeling like a couch potato in general, it makes me miss so many of the hobbies I had accumulated during childhood. I used to be such a well-rounded person!! Anybody else feeling the same thing? I mean, wow. After school on days I wasn't working at a local pizza restaurant:

I assisted with and took a few dance classes that I loved...I headed to practice with my violin for the youth symphony...hopped on the bus for swim team practice...stayed after to help choreograph or practice something for school musicals...went to pom squad practice for a while...oh and walked around with a video camera for the school tv station--- ok that's one hobby I couldn't let go :)

Now I go to work, come home, and occasionally exercise. It makes me wonder how I ever did all that, a feeling to which I'm sure lots of folks can relate. Quite a difference. So the other day I got the violin back out to try and revive the two songs every violinist knows and can even make a buck with..."The Devil Went Down to Georgia" or "Canon In D". They both resembled more like a pack of cats dying than Pachelbel.  As you can imagine, the swimming and dancing have taken a similar turn. Seems I balance on my toes about as well as I balance my checkbook these days.

To that end, I'm on a quest to revive my long lost "talents" ( a term I use loosely).  I'm trying to play my violin more and even found a "from nothing to one mile" training program for swimming. Nothing like summer to make you feel like you need to get up and do stuff! As for the dancing, what I do while nearly spraining my ankle in my living room is probably enough for now.

Any long-lost talents or hobbies from your youth that you miss? I want to hear them!

I took ice skating lessons, did cartwheels flips and round offs all over the yard, biked in all the fundraising rides, was on the cross-country track team, and the volleyball team, had minibikes and go-carts,and rode my horse alot as a kid. Now, at 43, been married for 11 years, I go to the YWCA and work out 2-3 times week, take kickboxing class two nights a week, ride a motorcycle, race an electric rc car sometimes on Sat. nights, bike and rollerblade the whole Shunga Trail, and am at work 10 hours a day for a five day week.I cook most of our food Saturday on a grill and re-heat for several days so as not to be stuck in the kitchen every night. My bank statement balances my checkbook every odd month or so, and all my bills get paid online either auotmatically, or with a click or two. I can still do cartwheels round offs and flips. I love it! ---------------------- You're my inspiration!!! Way to keep active and fun! Ok, that's it, I'm gettin off the couch! :) LS

Posted by: PS Cool subject Lindsay. I have always wished that i hadnt quit piano lessons in the 5th grade. I remember begging my mom to let me quit, it was so un-cool. I hate it that i didnt continue. And Im pretty sure that what i did know is all gone now :( ----------------- Oh seriously, I did the same thing with dance lessons, I begged to quit. My mom made me wait until I was at least in 6th grade to quit. I hated that it cut in to my afterschool time. I ended up going back tto dance hree years later but missed out on a lot of key development years. So silly! I shoulda stayed! LS
