Paper or Plastic? Neither for me, thanks!

Maybe it was because it was earth day or maybe it was the bargain that finally got me. I was grocery shopping in Wal-Mart last night and low and behold--I approach the check-out counter to find cloth grocery bags on sale for a dollar!

After giving tips all day about how to conserve and recycle, I thought I had better put my money where my mouth is. I bought two.

After being in San Antonio and then out of town for a week, I spent the last week eating a ton of fast food so this trip to the grocery store was the mother load. I didn't think two would be enough but I thought- well, every little bit helps.  To my surprise, these bags were huge and $70.00 in groceries fit perfectly. Not only that, but the straps are long enough to go on my shoulder so they are way easier to carry!

It's nice that so many stores are jumping on the green bandwagon. I know Whole Foods stopped having paper and plastic bags in their stores at all on Earth Day '08.

If you're looking for some, the bags at Wal-Mart are very inexpensive. You can also find some for sale on-line with cute sayings for the fashion-conscious.

I'm sold on cloth grocery bags, no more plastic bags for me.  The only trouble is--now what do I use to clean up after my pup?

I agree the bags hold a lot more groceries then the paper or plastic bags do and if you use them at Dillons they give you $.05 off your bill, so eventually they pay for themselves in more than one way! ---- Really? I had no idea! That's great! Thanks for the tip! LS

Posted by: Jaime I'm with you on this subject...They should have done this years ago! The bags are available at Dillon's too and they are large and sturdy! Try paper towels for the pup cleanup..better for the environment! Love watching you guys every morning! Keep up the good work!

Lindsay, I was so proud to hear you got your bags. I use the hot and cold bags for me they are great for all items and they keep my frozen, frozen until I get home. --------------Now that's a good idea! I hadn't thought of those but I know exactly the bags you're talking about! LS

I too purchased the bags at Walmart. They are great but I sometimes forget to take them with me. I started leaving them in my car so I try to make sure and put them in my car once I have emptied them. That way I always have them even if it is an unplanned trip. I like Walmart's bags better than the one at Dillons because the store name is blazened across the bag. Just a small Walmart tag sewn into the seam. --------------- That actually happened to me the day after I bought them, but I only bought a few things. So I had one last bag to clean up after my dog!
