A winter storm is still expected to impact Kansas travel for the next few days.
Millions of people will be on the roads... and this storm couldn't hit at a worse time. If our computer projections are correct... there will be a full on Blizzard for much of middle and western Kansas by Wednesday evening and night. Heavy snow will then reach the eastern part of the state on Thursday afternoon and evening.
This storm looks serious. And I hope we have gotten the message out to you.
If you are traveling... PLEASE... slow down. Remember... many folks that are on the road beside you will be from other parts of the nation... and frankly... may be looking at maps, tending to children in the car, on cell phones, or just not aware of the weather. There will be drivers from the south, who don't often drive on snow. There will be drivers in 4 x 4s who think that large trucks can't possibly slip off the road. There are many examples of drivers who might lose control of a car/truck in snow. Be aware. Be ready. And slow down.
If you are traveling... PLEASE... take a winter survival kit. http://www.wibw.com/weather/misc/79854312.html This list of items should be in your car before you head out in this potential mess.
You are in control right now. Make the right decisions. At a minimum... do these two things.
#1 Pack the car with items you will wish you had... if you do get stuck
#2 Drive slower... and be aware... so that getting stuck is less likely
Good luck and Merry Christmas,
