Temperatures dropped below freezing on the morning of April 7. Thinking back just a week... some parts of kansas had 1 to 2 feet of snow at the end of March... in one storm. For those who asked me "is winter over" when we saw readings chase and even break 80 in February... we can still get cold late into the spring. It has actually snowed in Kansas as late as early May. The wild part about spring... is that temperatures can swing WILDLY, and vary a great deal. "Warm" one week... can follow up with extreme cold. The record High for April 7 is 89 degrees... and the record low is 23. This link shows the average "last freeze" dates in Kansas... as well as the average "first freeze" |

Apr 14 2009, Low tempature reported at Billard airport was 35F but there was still a heavy blanket of frost that mourning.Billard is in my backyard how can this be. Posted by: Mark Location: Waverly I remember back I believe it was in 1980, when I was living in New Mexico-going to high school-one weekend was absolutely beautiful-highs in the low to middle 70's, but what happen that Monday after back in late May-I believe the last week in May,a rather large storm system came up and dumped in the east central mountain region anywhere from 6 inches to 2.5 feet of snow-it was crazy cause that year the senior class graduated with a little over of 3 inches of snow still on the ground, luckily the next year I graduated we had a much more "seasonal" visit from mother nature-lol. Thought I would share cause sometimes no matter what the calendar says and to coin the phrase "Don't mess with Mother Nature" |
