I have put this quote on the blog before... but it is still true today and must be remembered.
"The crises in Iran and Afghanistan have dramatized a very important lesson: Our excessive dependence on foreign oil is a clear and present danger to our Nation's security. The need has never been more urgent. At long last, we must have a clear, comprehensive energy policy for the United States."
Anytime somebody asks the question... "why didn't we do something sooner"? Or, "why weren't there ideas sooner". Remember that in 1980, Jimmy Carter said the words above. This isn't my endorsement of him, or his ideas... and it can be said that he was not the only one to see an impending problem.
That was 28 years ago. Time wasted... money wasted. And it can be argued that our security and even lives were sacrificed because we didn't act sooner to answer the energy questions.
I can only imagine how different our lives would be... had we stepped to the plate in the 80s or 90s to push electric cars... nuclear power... wind and solar energy. I am fearful to think of 28 years from now... when China and India become the force we already know they are becoming. If the situation was urgent in 1980... it is extremely urgent today.
