With the Pac 10 and Big 10 both looking to pick off teams from the Big 12, I've been fielding more and more questions on what the future is for the conference I've loved and cheered for since it was the Big 8 when I was growing up.
The story started months ago when the Big 10 started to flirt with Missouri. That has now extended to what would likely be an invite for Mizzou AND Nebraska. Much more recently the Pac 10 wants to raid the south division of the Big 12. Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma & Oklahoma State are all rumored to be on the Pac 10 radar along with either Baylor or Colorado depending on who's reports you read.
The obvious gem of the Big 12 is Texas. The Longhorns have the biggest fan base and the most money to offer another conference in terms of TV dollars. And let's be frank; money drives this entire mess in the first place. Some have suggested that had a 16 team football playoff been approved a few years back, we wouldn't be in this position in the first place. I can't help but wonder. I've always been a proponent for a playoff and I'm hoping that there's a way that the Big 12 could stay in tact, AND the NCAA would impliment some sort of playoff system for football.
What do you think? Chime in.
