Opening Day At Wrigley

Once the dust settles from the NCAA Tournament, we in the sports department are able to take a little time off to recharge our batteries.  Recently, I was able to get away for a little bit and I hit up the "Windy City" with my dad.  After taking in a Royals game in KC on Saturday with friends my dad, Jim, picked me up on Sunday morning and we flew out of KCI to Midway in Chicago.

Our hotel was in the heart of the Miracle Mile and I spent way too much time on Michigan Avenue in all of the shops and stores. Here's a shot of Dad and Me outside of the Watertower.

Monday was opening day at Wrigley Field and it was both my dad's and my first game ever at the historic ballpark.  (Dad is a lifelong Cubs fan).  On game day, we took the train from downtown to Wrigley

Once we got near the ballpark, we had to check out a couple of tourist bars: Cubby Bear's and Harry Caray's

We had to get a good shot outside of the famous Wrigley Field Sign and posed again inside during the starting lineups.

And after the ballgame (the Cubs beat the Brewers), I had to get a photo in front of the Harry Caray statue.  (Leave it to the broadcaster nerd in me) I couldn't help but think about the SNL Skit with Will Ferrell - "Hey Norm, if you were a hot dog and you were starving, would you eat yourself?"

We also had dinner at a couple of great restaurants while we were in Chi-Town.  We hit up Lawry's for prime rib on Sunday night and had Italian at Rosebud on Monday. I had to get some Giordano's pizza for the cab ride back to the airport on Tuesday.

It was my first time ever hanging out in Chicago and I can't wait to go back.  Big thanks to my friends Graham, Vanessa and Ashley for playing tour guide for my trip.
