WOW. That's all I can say after watching Michael Phelps win his 8th gold medal in Beijing. This has truly been one of the greatest performances in the history of sports.
One week, 7 world records, 8 Olympic records, and 8 gold medals. As I watched and cheered at a television that had no idea why I was yelling at it. My eyes welled up with pride. Pride in an amazing competitor, in true American greatness. Just a couple random thoughts on this unreal accomplishment:
If it weren't for Jason Lezak's amazing anchor leg in the 4X100M, Phelps, the record never would have had legs (or flippers)
Thank goodness for automatic timing, or Phelps amazing come from behind touch in the 100M Fly would have had him taking home a silver.
With all of the controversy in the sporting world, I sure hope this is pure, and that all of his teammates are on the up and up too.
Phelps is just a big kid. He's kinda goofy, but that's all part of his charm... he's not cocky, he just a genuine guy.
Hats off to the NBC team at the pool, or at least Dan Hicks and Rowdy Gaines (could have done without Andrea Kramer and her segmented confusing line of pool side questions). Bob Costas is my hero.
This is something that I won't forget for a long, long time.
Feel free to add your thoughts.
