A potentially significant snow storm may develop on Sunday and Monday.

I thought I would share an email that I just sent out to our staff here at WIBW.

Good Afternoon All -
At this point a fairly significant winter storm looks likely on Sunday into Monday followed by dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills through much of next week.
Our current forecast is 4-8 inches - we will adjust this forecast through the weekend as the storm nears, but some of our models are forecasting more than a foot of snow for portions of our viewing area, especially closer to the Nebraska it is possible we may adjust this storm total even higher...or lower...depending on how things develop.  We will fine tune the forecast and be more specific with how much each section of the viewing area can expect as the weekend goes forward....for now the general thinking is less snow to the Southeast and more snow to the Northwest.
The good news is this will be all snow.  No Ice to deal with this time around.
The timing of this could present major issues for Monday.
Current Timeline:
Saturday - Dry, no problems
Sunday - Snow likely, mainly North of I-70,  Could see 1-3 inches North of I-70 with an inch or less in Topeka.  Impacts will be fairly minimal for most areas.  Not expecting a huge problem with the Chiefs Game or KU Game on Sunday just maybe give yourself some extra travel time and be patient if you are going to one (or both) of these games.
Sunday Night - Snow will overspread the entire viewing area., picking up in intensity towards daybreak.   When the "decision makers" get out and about at 5AM they may not have much accumulation and decide to have the Inauguration and School as planned
Monday Morning - Snow Likely - could be heavy at times.  Looking for a nasty AM rush hour.  Inauguration location could be moved quickly.  Schools may decide they should let out early.
Monday Afternoon - Snow Likely.  More schools may let out early.  Afternoon/evening activities may be canceled.  Expect a nasty afternoon rush.
Monday Night - Snow will start to end from west to east.
Tuesday - light snow or flurries still possible, especially in the morning.  May have school closings.  It will be brutally Cold.  Wind chills of -10 or -20 will be possible.
Wednesday - Brutally Cold.  Winds chills of -10 or -20 possible.
Thursday - COLD - sub-zero low temperatures possible.
Remember it is Friday afternoon - still about 36 to 48 hours before this thing arrives so we will certainly have to adjust the forecast as each model run comes in.  However, do know that the models have been EXTREMELY CONSISTENT in dealing with this storm system all week long so that give us great confidence with our current forecast.
I know Monday was going to be a crazy day as it is with the Inauguration and all but us weather folks wanted to add to the fun a little.
We did this drill several times last year but this will be the first real winter storm we have dealt with this year.
Some good news - Our web numbers are generally at their tops during daytime snow events....we expect big numbers on Monday.
Lastly - I hope I didn't just jinx it and GOOOOOO CHIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEFFFSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\
