Many of you may know that I am an Eagle Scout. Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout. It is my belief that the Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts is the best activity a boy can participate in during their youth. I have also been known to say that the more Eagle Scouts in a Community, then the better off that community will be. I clearly have a great passion for the Boy Scout organization and a strong belief about the great influence scouting can have on a boy’s life. It certainly has been a large part of developing me into who I am today.
For this reason, I have been very outspoken this week about the opportunity to sign your boy(s), grades 1-5, up for the Cub Scouts and start them down the trail to Eagle Scout.
The Jayhawk Area Council has come up with a great idea to put forth a coordinated effort among all Cub Packs in the council to sign up boys for the Cub Scouts. Cup Packs have been strongly encouraged to hold their Cub Scout signup night on the same day, at the same time. This makes it very easy to widely promote signup night like I am here. That day happens to be this Thursday, August 25th at 7:00pm at your local elementary school. There are a couple packs that have had to adjust the time or date slightly so it would be a good idea to check with your elementary school specifically, but a vast majority of the Cub Packs in the Jayhawk Area Council will hold their Cub Scout signup night on Thursday, Aug 25th at 7:00PM at their local elementary schools.
I have had the opportunity to tour around to various elementary schools this week speaking with the boys in grades 1-5 about Cub Scouts and how much fun scouting can be. It was a very cool experience to see the boy’s facial expressions and excitement when I was telling them about some of the great activities there are in the Cub Scouts.
Parents, I promise you will not regret bringing your son on Thursday night to signup for the scouts. The cost is $15 per year but no boy will ever be turned away if a family can not afford it.
Not only do I encourage parents to sign up their boys, I also encourage parents to get involved yourselves. Moms, that means you too. This is not just for fathers and sons. You know how much 1-5 grade boys love to be around their moms. There is a direct correlation between boys who reach the rank of Eagle Scout and parents who are involved in scouting. A boy has a much higher percentage chance of becoming an Eagle if their parents are involved in the process, I promise you that.
SIGN YOUR BOY UP FOR THE CUB SCOUTS
