Huge Temperature Swing

We are about to experience the coldest air of the winter season and some of the coldest air we have seen for quite some time in Kansas.  Highs on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be +3, +2, and +9 degrees respectively.  Lows on Friday and Saturday will be near -10 degrees.  To make matters worse the wind will be whipping and gusting up to 35mph at times.  Wind chills are expected to be around -30 degrees.

This got me to thinking.  The temperature swing when you go from inside to outside will be ridiculous.  Even in the middle of summer when we have heat indexes around 120.  When you go from the inside air-conditioning to the outside heat (if you have your thermostat at 70 degrees) the change to your body is 50 degrees.  Well, we will double that for the next couple of days.  When you go from Inside to Outside, or vise versa, there will be a 100 degree difference in how your body feels.  A Temp of 70 inside to a wind Chill of -30 outside!  That is some crazy stuff!

It does not happen very often that we have such extreme cold and wind chills.  Our all time record low is -26 degrees so we won't break the all time record low...Do you remember the last time it was this cold?  How did you deal with it?  What will you do this time to deal with the extreme cold conditions?
