April 15th. Everyone knows this day as the day when taxes are due, and this date is fast approaching. Are you ready? Have you finished your taxes for this year? I am thankfully all done with my taxes for this year. I spent a good amount of time over the weekend getting my forms together and working my way through the turbo tax program on-line. I have thought about taking my taxes to a "tax guy" and letting him take care of it but I like to understand what is going on with my money, so I choose to do them myself (at least for the time being when my taxes are not all that complicated). I completed my taxes on Sunday afternoon and submitted them to the IRS. On Monday morning I opened my email account to find that the IRS had rejected my taxes. I freaked out at first not knowing what this meant. I quickly found out that I had not properly reported the stimulus check that the government sent out last Summer. I thought I was to report what my refund from my 2007 taxes was, but I was instead supposed to report that I got $600 from the stimulus package. I quickly fixed this error and re-submitted my taxes. I am happy to report that they were accepted and I am done with this for another 11 months.
I always wonder why I wait until April to do my taxes. If I would do them in February or March when I first get all my forms in the mail, it would be much less stressful. So what about you? When do you do your taxes? Do you do them yourself or do you have a "tax guy" do them for you? If you have not yet started....good luck!
