It does not happen to me often, but I will admit that earlier this week I was in a sour mood. Things just didn't seem to be going right. I needed some therapy. My therapy comes from being outdoors and getting close to critters. So yesterday after work I headed to the duck marsh. As I rolled down the gravel road and rolled down the windows, I immediately felt better. I made the walk to my spot, set up some decoys and waited for the afternoon flight. Not long after I sat down I heard what sounded like two big bucks doing battle no more than 75 yards from me. They were locking antlers, grunting at each other...it was an all out battle for dominance. This went on for about 15 minutes...very cool. Then the losing buck limped through the marsh with his head down...nature at its finest. I saw plenty of ducks, but just wasn't in the right spot ( I know where I'm setting up next time), so I didn't get any. However, seeing the bucks, watching the ducks work the marsh and hearing the pheasants fly from the corn fields to the roost was good for the soal. I am in a great mood this morning thanks to my afternoon excursion.
So now you know what puts me in a good mood. How about you? What do you do when you are feeling a little down and grumpy?
