Butch Felker Memorial Golf Tourney.

On Monday I had the pleasure of playing alongside JB Bauersfeld in the 1st annual Butch Felker Memorial Golf Tourney at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Topeka.  It was a great tournament held in honor of a great man with a goal to raise money for a new baseball field to be built in Gage Park.  Overall there were 14 teams who competed in a 4 man/woman shamble format.  Most benefit golf tournaments are played under the scramble format rules where you play the best ball from tee to green.  The shamble format is a little different and makes the scoring a little higher, but we were able to purchase some mulligans which came in handy throughout the day.  In the shamble format you play the best ball off of the tee and then everyone plays their own ball from there and you take the best score from your team.  So in order for your team to post a birdie or par score, one player has to string together 2 or 3 solid shots without the help of his/her teammates.  Our team was not full of ringers and we did not place but we had a great time. We had our fair share of shining moments that included JB sinking a 35 foot put, except it wasn't on a "longest put" hole and then I ripped a 300+ yard drive with the help of a strong southerly wind that put us only about 50 yards from the green on #1.  It was the first time I had ever played at Cypress Ridge and I was impressed with the condition of the course.  I will play there again.

What do you think the best golf course in NE Kansas is.  I have only played Lake Shawnee and Cypress Ridge but like them both.  They suite my abilities well in the fact that I can miss the fairway by 20 yards and still have a look at the green....i like that.
