Sorry...it's bold and it's a tough decision.  But I feel the Royals need to fire their manager Trey Hillman and FAST!  The team has never looked worse.  From fielding, to batting, to pitching it's ugly.  And sadly I don't even believe it's all the manager's fault, but he sadly becomes the scapegoat.  It's clearly not working with him as their leader and he's had a good amount of time to make his mark.

The players are were the team makes their wins and losses and with a shake-up at manager it could spark this team into waking up a bit.  We're not even really a young team so you can't blame anything on that...it's really a team of guys who have been around for a while.  From Crisp in center, to DeJesus is left, Teahan at 3rd, Buck behind the plate, even Billy Butler...all of these players have been around long enough to not be called "new."

Bottom line though is it's time for a change.  The Royals were playing bad baseball even during their winning portion of the season.  Bad fundamentals and bad execution.  They were very fortunate with great situational hitting during that good stretch.  That stretch caught up with them because once those 2 out hits dried up...so did the wins.  That all comes back to the fact that they were not driving in runners on base with no outs or one out.  To not be moving runners over in those situations will catch up with you and it has.

Hillman has had his chance and it's time for him to move on.  I hope Dayton Moore is currently talking to some potential candidates already as I suspect he is...we'll see.  But as a lifelong Royals fan...watching their games is simply painful!

As long as the idiot owner still has the Royals they will never be a contender for the playoffs. How much longer do the good people of Kansas City have to put up with the worst owner in sports. (that includes the LA Clippers)

Cruz coming into pitch the 8th inning is really getting old. Someone should tell the team organist to play the song-"turn out the lights the party is over" whenever he enters the game, because you know the game is done! Hillman is terrible, but I have had it with Dayton Moore also. The honeymoon is over and I want a divorce. The Royals suck and KC deserves better. Mr. Glass please sell the team to a local owner, and let Frank White manage the team until the end of the year to see if he can save the ship!

The manager -- good start maybe. "some " of the Royals players don't even appear to be fundamentally sound. It's the small things that win close games. They don't even appear to be able to do this. We are suffering through alot of injuries and some players have been trying to play through them. Sometimes this ends up hurting a team as a whole. I realize the game has changed some from 20 or 30 years ago with the way pitch counts are used. But if pitchers are getting outs should they be pulled? Dick Howser and Whitey Herzog wouldn't have pulled a pitcher getting outs. We won that way.

Posted by: John How about we fire them all, tear down the stadium, and build something worthwhile.

Posted by: Mike I just sure seems like the team isn't responding to ANYTHING. The only thing interesting about going to a Royals game right now is to check out the new stadium. If Florida, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and other small market teams can make it, the Royals should be able to as well. I'm tired of hearing that we can't win because we are small market because Minnesota has done it for years now. Butler is a bust at best, Teahan is a good RF, put him there and DH Guillen, keep Hochevar in the rotation and let him take his growing pains like everybody else. At least "look" like we care. We should be doing much better than this, especially in this division.

Better yet, maybe we should put you in as manager. You seem to have all the answers. It is easy to sit in your chair watching the game and say how it should be done, cause you are not in their shoes. Besides, a coach can only do so much, the players have to be able to play. The Royals aren't as bad this year as they have been in years past, look at the w/l record. They won't turn around in one season.

firing the manager won't change the fact that the owners refuse to sign any decent free agents or sign our better players to long term contracts, so that a quality product can be put on the field. baseball needs to force the stingy owners to actually spend a certain percentage of the revenue sharing that they get instead of allowing them to pocket all or most of the money

I don't care what they do, but do something to annoy him and make him as crazy as Major League or as nuts and watch him freak out like Hal MacRae did back in the old days, and it will live in infamy on re-runs of Best Damn top 50 countdowns.

I bet some where Allard BAird and Buddy Bell are smiling. They were supposed to be the scapegoats and Dayton Moore and Trey rode in on white horses to be the savior of the team. That being said this is a critical time in the franchises history and I hope we dont just make a change for change sake. That has never gotten us anywhere. I do think that the lack of talent is pointed not necesscarily at the lack money paid out this year. Payroll is at 70 million. They have just made some mistakes in where they have spent it. Jacobs, Farsnworth, Crisp, Cruz thats just this year. That is on Dayton Moore not Trey.

Better idea loose the 300 lbs. Ponson and keep Hochevar in the rotation and trade Butler, he is only a good DH.Keep Teahan at one position not six. Also put Kyle Davies in the bullpen

Watching the Royals for the past 10 years has been a waste of my time. I mostly blame it on the small market owners that wont put money into star players. Every time the Royals get a good player, they trade hime away for draft picks or has beens. Dont fire the manager because nobody else can do better with the players they have this year. Small market managers are handcuffed to begin with. Let him finish out the year and then see what leavin's are out there from other disappointed owners.

DAVE RESPONSE: I totally agree with your comments about ownership not getting star players...but when bad moves are made by the manager regarding player moves during games and when those seemingly capable players can't execute a run-down...then I lean towards making a change at manager. Just my opinion. dj

That is stupid........ we dont wont to fire Trey Hilman....are you nuts????????????????......It takes a team to win and a team to lose......It isnt treys fault his team is losing!

Dave, you may be right. But...let's see how the team does between now and the All Star break...then maybe bring in Frank White to manage the team the rest of the year and see if that sparks the team to play better...and win more games
