Throwing it all Away!

Being married is great, I'm not complaining.  But this weekend was tough because my wife was forcing me to go through old clothes and get rid of a bunch.  And when I say "forcing me to" I mean at near gunpoint!  She's very tired of my continually growing t-shirt collection.  Ya see...in my world I'm always getting new and exciting free t-shirts.  She even thought I should get rid of my 2001 Summer Softball Champions shirt, and my 2003 one.  And my old Z95.7 radio t-shirts.  I guess I don't mind getting rid of multiples, but each unique shirt has its own story.

But being the incredible husband that I am...I got rid of a bunch.  Not nearly as many as she would have liked, but it was enough for her not to give me too much trouble about the supply I kept.  I'm not really even a pack right (I don't think)...I just don't like throwing stuff away that I may end up needing later.  Recently I threw away a hairbrush that had barely been used...I was cleaning out an old drawer.  Since I've thrown it away I've needed it several times.  Turns out I need a brush in warmer weather and had forgotten that after our long winter.

What's sentimental to one, is junk to another I think!  Your thoughts?

Posted by: Kelli In my defense, after 5 years, some of the "white" t-shirts just aren't white anymore! I once heard that the things we keep are only that -- just things. Even once the item is gone, we will still retain the memories. So, I tend to stick to that policy - don't get me wrong, I still keep things that have meaning to me I just try to control it. In any case, thanks for getting rid of some of the old t-shirts. One of the previous posts was correct...your wife is very happy and loves you for it! :)

DAVE REPONSE: Well let's at least take some pictures of the old t-shirts before we throw em away...that way we can remember the good times. Oh...and wifey...stop reading my blog. It makes it hard to talk about you!!!

Dave, You should have turned your old t-shirts into a t-shirt quilt. There are all kinds of patterns out there for that. I hate to throw things away also. So does my husband. But I am trying to get better about throwing things away. But it is hard.

She has clothes hanging in her side of the closet from her high school days(Class of 83)she wouldn't be caught dead wearing, but refuses to get rid of. We have a storage room in our basement packed to the gills with used stuff including wedding presents we have never used. We will celebrate 20 yrs of marriage in June. I grew up in a spotless home where you sorted your sock and underware drawer monthly as a kid, and heaven forbid you left anything on the floor because you'd never see it again. She grew up in a house where housework was not a priority and the by the looks of it, you NEVER threw anything away.

Dave, please listen to your wife since you are the 'save for the future' one in your marriage. My late husband was a huge saver and when he died what a horrible mess we had to clean up! It certainly is not fair to the family. Another thing, if you must save, keep the items small and boxed as that helps immensely! Good luck, Guy, in keeping things of the save variety to a minimum. Your wife will love you for it!!

You should have kept your old t-shirts, and had someone make you a t-shirt quilt! That way you keep your shirts, but they don't take up near as much room!

DAVE RESPONSE: Great idea!
