Today ends the fourth week of my new career at WIBW, and things are finally (and thankfully) starting to slow down. I had no idea what it was like to change careers. Frankly, I thought it was going to be a breeze moving from Radio to Television...and boy, was I wrong.
My head started spinning right away when everything I needed to learn in order to be an effective member of this staff came at me all at once. From the complex things like learning our news computer system and producing a newscast, to the easy stuff like knowing which camera to look at and when (which is not as easy as it may sound). There was, and still is so much for me to learn around here. Months worth, actually...and it drives me crazy not knowing how to do something.
I could go on and on about this roller coaster of a ride my first month in television has been, and just like roller coasters, I have enjoyed every single moment.
I couldn't have done it without the support of everyone here at WIBW, but especially from all the "tough love" I get from Amanda Lanum, all the inside tips and pointers from Drew, and all the help from my work neighbor Suzie Gilbert. Each one of them are always willing to help me out with my silly little questions or mistakes, even if that means letting me fall square on my rear end (this is an indirect reference to the "tough love" noted above).
I miss my friends and former co-workers at KTPK radio...but I'm really happy to have such a great group of people to work with here.
Thanks for stopping by...I hope to post more as I get more educated around here, giving me more free time!
