What's Next For Perkins?

By: Matt Blanchette

With the pending retirement of Lew Perkins at the University of Kansas, I can only sit and wonder, what is next for Perkins and the University. Let's call him a lame duck AD. I mean, that is what you would call a coach who knows he is not going to be with the team the following season. Whether you believe it was his choice or the Universities does not change the current dilemma. (Personally, I do think he chose to leave, and was not forced out. This is a lot for one man to handle, and his is 65 years old).

The dilemma is: what can Perkins accomplish in his final year? Many think he should leave now, but honestly, would you really want to install a new AD right now in the midst of the realignment? Bill Self said it best on Thursday when he said, "Who has more connections that Lew."

Perkins has been an AD in the ACC and Big East. He knows someone from nearly every administration in the nation. And despite the recent controversy, he has KU's best interests at heart. Not only do I think he will end up having a large say in where the Hawks go, but I also think he will play a role in finding his successor.

What do you think?
