BOOTCAMP CHALLENGE: Declutter

by Amanda Lanum

I've heard that sometimes how we feel about our everyday lives can be related to the condition in which we keep our homes. I think there's truth to this. When life starts to feel too "fast," like you're a little out of control or overwhelmed, take a look at your surroundings. If the rooms in my home start to get cluttered or are in disarray, it's usually at a time when I'm feeling like this. You're probably thinking, so where's the bootcamp side of this. For me - and I suspect many of you - when I'm in that state of being overwhelmed or feeling like my physical surroundings and emotional state is cluttered, I often make poor choices when it comes to what I'm eating. I also feel exhausted and have no desire to workout. This week's Bootcamp Challenge is to take whatever time you need in one day, and tackle a room that needs decluttered. Maybe it's the stack of things on your desk in your home office that you've been meaning to organize and file or throw away. Maybe your laundry or recycling is piling up and you've been saving it for another day. You've been meaning to get rid of some clothes you never wear and take them to the Salvation Army. How about tidying up your kitchen or your bedroom? A frequent excuse is, "I'd like to get that done, I just haven't found the time." Find it now. Get it over with and you'll feel a little weight off your shoulders when it's done. Not to mention the physical act of cleaning up will burn a few extra calories.
