The 44th Annual Country Music Awards last night increased by 15 percent in the ratings over last year's viewership.
I didn't watch the entire show, but saw the last 45 minutes or so. I thought Reba was a great host - she's such a funny and talented lady. Sugarland (one of my favorites!) sang a great new song.
Sugarland also took home the award for Best Vocal Duo.
Perhaps the most moving performance was Trace Adkin's collaboration with the Westpoint Glee Club to sing "Til the Last Shot's Fired." He was introduced by 1st. Lt. Andrew Kinard, an Iraqi veteran wounded in the war. If you didn't see it you've got to watch it here ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge9zXIQq5HI.
I also really liked Taylor Swift's surprised reaction to her Album of the Year win. She said, "Anyone who knows me knows if I talk to you for more than five minutes, I'm probably going to write a song about you."
I missed Julianne Hough's wardrobe malfunction but saw some clips and thought it was great she could laugh off that she tore her dress on the way to get her award.
Matthew McConaughey's "thank you" story to George Strait before announcing the Entertainer of the Year award was great, too. :)
Matthew McConaughey. In 1987, he and his brother took a short road trip to another town in Texas to see a hot new artist named Dwight Yoakam. "While we're there, we meet a couple of ladies that we're trying to pick up, right? Conversation comes around to what we do for a livin', and so on cue, my brother and I said, 'Well, we have an exclusive contract with George Strait. We custom-make his boots.' And they were like, 'Really?' We're like, 'Oh yeah. Say, as I a matter of fact, out in the parking lot, in the trunk of our white Corvette, we have the next year's new edition white, ostrich quill, George Strait signed series that he's gonna wear on tour next year.' [Cut to Strait, who's laughing] And they got pretty excited about that and said, 'Well, can we see? Can we see? Can we see?'...And we obliged...Point of the story is, we got lucky that night. Thank you, George."
McConaughey presented the Entertainer of the Year award to Carrie Underwood; first time for a female winner since the Dixie Chicks in 2000. Accepting her award, a tearful Underwood said, "I don't know what to say. I got nothin'...I want to see those boots, Matthew. [Audience erupts in laughter] I'm just kidding. Apparently you all agree."
What were some of your favorite ACM moments?
