By now you've seen or at the very least heard about Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps' famous bong-hit at a University of South Carolina party back in November. Today, WIS-TV reports law enforcement has arrested eight people in connection with the incident for drug possession and drug distribution.
Just Monday, the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs from 2001-2003. He says he tested positive because of supplements he got at a dietary supplement retailer that he claims were tainted.
Phelps' bong hit cost him his Kelloggs contract. He was also suspended by USA Swimming for three months. But the guy is 23 years old. Mikey apologized and said he was being young. Forgive and forget or continue to punish the man because he is considered a role model after winning eight Olympic gold medals? (As an aside, didn't our President admit to dabbling with Mary Jane in his younger days?)
As for A-Rod, many of the Yankees today said they forgive him because he's their teammate. It happened six years ago when he was with the Rangers. Which leads me to another question, do you believe he only used 'roids between 2001 and 2003? And do you buy the story he thought his dietary supplements were tainted? http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/02/09/2009-02-09_arod_tells_a_tainted_story_experts_say_h.html.
Both these guys faced major hits to their reputations because of their respective drug usage. What do you think? Is one worse than the other?
