The Polar Plunge is coming up at the end of the month! I hate running in the cold but love to participate in local races, so when our sports guy Matt Blanchette talked about doing it, I thought if he can suck it up, so can I.
The fun thing about this event is the plunge itself after the 5K race. Anyone who's daring enough will jump into the chilly Shawnee Lake after the run/walk! Many people dress up in costumes to make it even more entertaining.
I don't know if I'll be plunging, but I'm ready to race the 5K and enjoy the show after!
You can register for the 5K or the one mile walk online at http://www.ksso.org/topeka.html or by calling Jana Fornelli at 800.444.9803.
It's January 31 at Tinman Circle, 3300 SE Croco Road. The race and walk start at 11a.m. If you just want to come out and support all the plungers, they'll be jumping in at noon!
The point of all this is to raise money for the Special Olympics. We're fundraising now, so if you want to help out by donating, please e-mail me at amanda.lanum@wibw.com!
Enjoy these pictures from last year's Plunges!
