Among the memorial ceremonies in the area Thursday morning, the first Infantry Division and Fort Riley held a ceremony at the global war on terrorism monument.
It's been 7 years since the United States was devastated by terror attacks in New York City, Arlington, Virginia and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Tthe fort riley community came together to remember those lives lost in those attacks and at war.
The first infantry division band played at the ceremony in recognition of family members of fallen soldiers who were present. There was also a reading of the names that have been added to the monument, the laying of a wreath and a 21-gun salute.
To date, 155 service members from Fort Riley have died in the war against terrorism.
