People from all over gathered in Lyndon to remember Beau Arndt and also to remember hunting safety. The message... be aware at all times.

19 year old Beau Arndt was lying on the ground hunting bird decoys December 15th when Theron Thomas Kent, not knowing Beau was there, fired a shot out of his truck window and killed him. This sad story inspired a young teen to do something positive in Beau's memory.

15 year old, Skylar Bond spearheaded the first annual sporting clays memorial shoot with his dad to raise funds for the Kansas Hunters Education program so that more hunters are aware of all safety measures. In one day almost a thousand dollars was raised in Beau's name which is going toward the fund.

"This can happen to any hunter out there. An illegal hunter drives by and shoots at you it's no good. It all started when I asked my dad if I could go hunting with my friends he said no. He was afraid of other people, other hunters. I took Beau's story to heart, it touched me and I wanted to do something to help," says 15 year Skylar Bond.

Skylar's dad, Scott says, "my son and I are avid bird hunters and we're big into hunters education and hunter safety. My son came up with the idea to do something extra rather than send 10 or 15 bucks. He wanted to do something that would raise money and shed light on the issue and situation and on the fact that there needs to be more awareness out there, more safety for hunters."

Christine Arndt, Beau's mother says, "we are really grateful that this is being done. People have come together. It's such a horrible tragedy as his mother I'm thankful he hasn't died in vain. We miss him horribly but at least something's good come out of this more awareness about a hunter's safety. Skylar called 3 days after Beau died. My husband Bob got the phone and said I can't believe this kid wants to do a memorial shoot for Beau. I was just amazed. Beau touched him to make a difference."

"I had Beau and his brother Seth in a hunter education class in 2002 at the end of the class we ask those certified to become ambassadors of the sport, get others involved. Beau was the epitome of doing that he would take his mother hunting...younger people..everyone. Getting other people involved in the outdoors is what it's all about," says Phil Taunton, an area coordinator with the Kansas Hunters Education program.

Beau certainly brought people together Sunday to enjoy the outdoors and to educate everyone on hunter safety.
