Topeka and Shawnee County residents have a major hand in the future of their community. "Luke Planning" has started a process to take suggestions from the people to build a visioning plan for the area.

More than 500 people were on hand at the Ramada Inn at the introductory meeting Monday evening -- a great turnout.

Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller was impressed with the turnout, but urged people to continue to show an interest and give feedback.

Topeka Mayor Bill Bunten said any plan people come up with will likely require money -- and citizens will need to decide if they are willing to spend it.

The process takes several months, and a plan should be finished November 6.

Here is my vision for Topeka: A fleet of 50 police helicopters, a fire station on every block, million dollar baseball diamonds in every park, and a staff of 100 for the city manager's department. While we're at it let's build every watertower development/riverfront development/downtown redevelopment scheme the "brains" who run this town concoct. All we have to do is raise taxes. Since we're all made of money this shouldn't pose a hardship. Let also pave the streets with gold-at least the potholes will be filled. Topeka-As insane as you think.

Topeka and Shawnee County can't even get together and jointly purchase a software program. Does anyone really expect they will be able to work together?

10 Things You Didn't Know...
Favorite Food:
You can’t beat Mexican food!

Favorite Sport:
Big Hoops fan. I follow Wichita State (go Shockers!), New Jersey Nets and also the Kansas Jayhawks.

Pets:
We can’t have pets at my apartment building, but I’d love to have a cat. My wife likes dogs. I see an argument down the line.

Favorite Season:
Basketball season.

First Car:
1982 citation. It was the worst car known to man. I still have nightmares about it.

Hometown or College:
Originally from the ICT, a.k.a. Wichita. Still go back on some weekends. Fun times.

Favorite Vacation Spot:
Hawaii and New York were both a blast!

Favorite Activity Outside of Work:
Dreaming of going back to work. Just kidding…I’m a big fan of music, sports and spending time with friends and family…and of writing clichéd answers to favorite activity questions. And being sarcastic.

Favorite Movie:
Ghostbusters. Who ya gonna call?

Most and/ or Least Favorite Subject in School:
I always liked History and English, and was horrible at Math. Good thing no one will ever need to be good at math. Except math teachers, I suppose.
